Beginners Programme

Bowls is a sport which is often described as ‘easy to learn and challenging to master’.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player our coaches will work with you to build confidence and improve your game. We currently offer a 4 week Beginners Programme or bespoke sessions designed to work with you on the aspects of your game that you want to review. Video analysis is included where it can assist.

A beginners programme

The Beginners Programme comprises 4 sessions and is designed to give you a good foundation for your bowling and begin the process of building good habits, creating the foundations of consistent bowling, and understanding the Laws & Etiquette of the sport of Bowls. This should enable you to both practice on your own and join any of the roll-ups that take place during each week.

Our coaches provide free sessions, you just pay for your rink charges. Each session is one hour in length, and the four session programme will introduce you to the basic skills and laws of indoor bowls. No prior experience or equipment needed. The club will provide a set of woods (bowls), all we ask of you is to wear clean flat soled shoes!

The coached sessions are one hour in length, so that you can book two hours, if you wish, and continue playing and practising what you have learnt.

By the end of the 4 week programme you should know about :

·       The basic laws concerning how to play a game of bowls

·       How a bowl works

·       How to prepare your shot

·       Ho to stand on the mat

·       How to grip and deliver your bowl

·       How to control your swing to bowl to different lengths

Our coaches are qualified and part of the Coach Bowls coaching scheme which keeps them up to date with developments. They will work with you at your pace and are always ready to answer questions and support your entry to the sport as well as being interested in your development as a player.

Player development

Our club coaches are able to support your continued development in the game. They are contactable and available to work with you as you seek to improve your consistency and develop the range of shots available to you when you are playing. This can include video analysis where you can see yourself in action. Along with shot playing our coaches can work with you to support developing your ability to read a head of bowls and understand which shots are likely to bring the desired result of winning an end.

Typically, there can be three or four coached sessions in a development programme or you can request a one off session to address a particular issue.

Remember, if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.  Develop and keep good bowling habits with the support of a club coach.
