There are three changes to this coming New Season 2023/24 and we hope that the programme overall will draw in new teams and new members as we continue our work to get back to 2017 levels of membership and beyond.

The changes :

1. On Tuesday afternoons, the Bettys Roll-Up will start at 1.30pm and run on the clock to 3.30pm which will allow the Youth Academy to work from 3.30pm.

2. On Tuesday evenings, the Australian Pairs will run, on the clock, from 6pm to 8pm, and a new Singles Ladder League will run from 8pm to 10pm.

3. On Wednesday evenings there will be a new Sapphire League (run in the same format at the Diamond League) from 6pm to 8pm on 11 Wednesdays through the season (dates to be published by end of May 2024).

On the other Wednesday evenings 6pm - 9pm, there will be a new league run on the same format as the Bowls Australia BPL. A pairs competition(bowling 3 bowls each), with a team of 4 including at least one person of each gender, of which 3 must play in each match (each player must bowl at least 9 bowls). Two sets of 5 ends, with the mat and jack being set. There is a power play for double points in each set.

A match is 2 sets of 5 ends with one deciding end if the sets are drawn. There will be two matches on each evening.

There will be music played throughout the evening, it is our intention to provide a bar as part of The Hub, each team will be asked to source and wear the same design tops (not white) and there will be cash prizes for the top 3 teams. The full conditions of play and match fees etc. will be published by the 31st May 2024 however the first 12 teams written on the sheets in Woodgreen will be given entry priority following the release of the full information.

We do see this as an opportunity to also draw in new teams from local clubs and hopefully initiate new teams in our other leagues too. We will also be looking for 6 people to act as Rink Umpires (with preparation and familiarisation) so please let me know if you would be interested in supporting in this way.

Best wishes

Andy Winter
